Offseason Headlines We Want To See

Photo by Matt Thomas/San Diego Padres/ The Over The Monster Podcast It’s podcast time! This week, Bryan and Dan draft the headlines they want to read this offseason. Bryan goes nuts with the puns, while Dan decides to be an agent of chaos and engineer a trade for Fernando Tatis Jr. There’s also some brief discussion of both the Yankees and the Nazis, though, incredibly, the two are not connected. Thanks for listening.

One pitcher the Blue Jays should have traded for at the deadline

While the 2022 trade deadline didn’t really get moving until Juan Soto was officially dealt to the San Diego Padres, the Toronto Blue Jays eventually walked away with some depth to the bullpen and a utility player from a former playoff rival. Once it was all said and done, the Blue Jays acquired relievers Anthony […] One pitcher the Blue Jays should have traded for at the deadline - Jays Journal - Jays Journal - Toronto Blue Jays News, Rumors and Fan Community

Happy Birthday Joey Hamilton

It is Joey Hamilton’s 53rd birthday today (it is also my middle son’s birthday. Happy Birthday Tommy). Joey came to the Jays in one of the worst trades of the Gord Ash era. The Jays traded Woody Williams, Carlos Almanzar and Peter Tucci to get Joey from San Diego. Dave Stewart gave him a strong recommendation after coming to the Jays to be assistant GM, having been the Padres pitching coach the season before. Stewart had played with Joey, saw something in his eyes or some stupid thing like that, and figured he would be a star. It does explain why Stewart wasn’t promoted...

Series Preview #43: Diamondbacks @ Padres

Photo by Denis Poroy/ The Snakes will get a bite of the Brewers v2.0 I am stepping in to do several previews that would have otherwise been written by the witty Jack Sommers, so don’t slam me for the lack of professionalism in this write up. Besides, you know who I am. :) Padres = Brewers? The last time we played the Padres was before the trade deadline. We got swept at Petco Park...no, wait! We actually won a game, because Merrill Kelly > Mike Clevinger. And Melancon got a save. Ha! You didn’t see that coming! It was the last game before the All Star game and ever...

Today in Jays History: Some trades, and Adam Lind drives in 8

Photo by Cole Burston/ Two Years Ago Today The Jays made three trades. Two went very well. One not so well. Robbie Ray came over from the Diamondbacks for Travis Bergen. Bergen pitched 6.2 innings for the Diamondbacks at the end of last season, and then we got him back at the end of February for cash. He pitched in 10 games for the Jays. After the season, he was a free agent, signed with the Padres, and was released earlier this month. Ray pitched in 5 games down the stretch in 2020. In 2021, working with Pete Walker, he was the best pitcher in the AL. His place among...
