Robert Turner on Jerick McKinnon being a fit: “He has the all of the physical tools and he’s very coachable”

Robert Turner knows running backs and discussed it with the media. You can watch the interview here. The San Francisco 49ers may have a nice trio of running backs with Jerick McKinnon, Matt Breida and possibly Joe Williams alternating carries. Raheem Mostert is no slouch either, which makes for some nice playmakers in the backfield. McKinnon is an interesting one, the 49ers signed him to a nice deal in the 2017 free agency which is a bit un-Kyle Shanahan-like. Shanahan, like his father Mike Shanahan, has made a name for himself developing later round backs and using them for great value....

Report: 49ers sign safety J.J. Wilcox

The move provides some veteran depth as they move Jimmie Ward back to cornerback. The San Francisco 49ers waived defensive back Trovon Reed on Monday, and have quickly replaced him in the secondary. The team has signed safety J.J. Wilcox, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Wilcox entered the NFL in 2013 as a third round pick of the Dallas Cowboys. He spent four seasons with the Cowboys, rotating between free safety and strong safety. He appeared in 58 games, starting 38 of them. When he hit free agency last year, he signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Shortly before...

Today, the spotlight is on cornerback D.J. Reed out of Kansas State. Since the conclusion of last season there was a lot of talk and discussions about the 49ers upgrading the cornerback position. They signed Richard Sherman in free agency and picked up a number of options in the draft. Golden Nuggets: Elder Statesmen

A daily compilation of 49ers news from around the net. Sunday, May 27th, 2018 edition. Good morning folks, while we haven’t learned much from OTAs thus far, team interviews are revealing quite a bit about the mindset and habits of the players. Obviously, most of us are more interested in hearing about how the LEO or IOL positional battles are shaking out, but football isn’t about on-field talent in a vacuum, as the past few months have somewhat made clear. Newcomer, and prized free agency acquisition, RB Jerick McKinnon mentioned to the media recently that there’s a special kind of...

Jerick McKinnon talks little man syndrome, Big Chicken, Jimmy G

The 49ers running back had an extensive conversation with Matt Maiocco on a WIDE range of topics. The San Francisco 49ers signed running back Jerick McKinnon this offseason, thinking he is a perfect fit for the system. We’ll see plenty of work for Matt Breida and maybe Joe Williams and Raheem Mostert, but Kyle Shanahan has made it pretty clear that McKinnon is the lead guy. McKinnon recently sat down with Matt Maiocco for a lengthy conversation that turned out to be a lot of fun (audio here if you can’t listen above). McKinnon talked about the 49ers recruiting him in free agency, and...

90-in-90: Edge rusher Jeremiah Attaochu

Breaking down the 90 players on the 49ers offseason roster in 90 posts (over 90 or so days). Today is edge rusher Jeremiah Attaochu. The San Francisco 49ers worked to address their pass rush needs this offseason, but they did not make a big splash. The team re-signed Cassius Marsh early in the offseason, and then signed Jeremiah Attaochu when free agency got going. The team drafted Kentavius Street to play defensive end after his ACL tear heals, but otherwise, that was it. The primary question on the edge will be how Solomon Thomas plays in the LEO role opposite Arik Armstead. When the...
