Minicamp observations: Sean Lee is everywhere

IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys’ minicamp came to an end Thursday, so we offer up the final observations. LB Sean Lee was everywhere. He opened team drills with a breakup of a Kyle Orton throw to TE Jason Witten, picked off Orton in seven-on-seven drills and broke up an underneath throw to WR Miles Austin. How good might the Cowboys be at middle linebacker and weakside linebacker? One play after Lee’s interception, Bruce Carter blanketed DeMarco Murray out of the backfield and forced an incompletion. Eight in the Box: Returning from injury

A look at key players for each NFC East team who are coming back from injuries: Dallas Cowboys: LB Sean Lee Lee has been a breakout defensive star for the Cowboys the past two seasons, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy. A wrist injury limited him after a raging hot start in 2011, and after another hot start in 2012 he injured a toe in Week 7 and missed the remainder of the season. The Cowboys' defense is different when Lee is on the field and at his instinctive, playmaking best, and it misses him terribly when he's not. Dallas Cowboys Blog | ESPN Dallas

How health could elevate the Cowboys

In this story by Calvin Watkins on ESPNDallas.com, we hear from Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant and linebacker Sean Lee, who say their 2012 injuries are no longer of concern and they will be ready to go once the offseason program gets humming. There are a lot of players on a lot of teams saying the same thing right now, but the reason I note this story is that I think the significance of these particular players to this particular team makes it worth noting. Cowboys need draft class to remain healthy

IRVING, Texas -- Over the last few years, the Cowboys have had draft picks who weren't ready to start practicing come rookie minicamp. Sean Lee, Bruce Carter, Matt Johnson and Morris Claiborne were just some of the players whose careers were delayed by either post-college surgeries or an early injury in camp. This class doesn't appear to have those issues, other than running back Joseph Randle, who has a thumb injury. But he will wear a brace and participate in the rookie minicamp in two weeks. Giants bring in former Cowboys LB Connor for a visit

Continuing their search for linebackers, the Giants will take a look Dan Connor, the former Panther and Cowboy, who is coming to town for a visit. Connor, 27, refused to take a pay cut earlier this off-season and on Monday was released by the Cowboys, saving them $3 million on the salary cap. He’s a five-year NFL player from Penn State who spent his first four seasons with the Panthers before heading to Dallas. He didn’t make much of an impact with the Cowboys. He started eight games, moving in when fellow Penn State product Sean Lee was lost for the season with a toe injury. Connor moved int... Giants Blog | New York Post

Cowboys stats of interest

We received the Cowboys final coaches statistics from the 2012 season the other day, well, OK, we picked them up from Valley Ranch while in the area, and came up with some interesting observations. *The Cowboys second leading tackler in 2012 was, surprise safety Danny McCray with 87 total tackles. Now when you lose players who put up high volume tackle numbers such as Sean Lee and Bruce Carter to injuries, it means someone else will get more opportunities to make plays.
