Jays win 5-2 behind a trio of home runs

Blue Jays 5 White Sox 2 A 1-1 pitcher’s duel through seven innings in the rubber match of a rainy series finished with a flourish and some metaphorical fireworks on Victoria Day weekend. Leading off the 8th inning, Jonathan Davis broke an 0-for-16 start to his season with a line drive single. That turned the lineup over the top and leadoff hitter Eric Sogard, who has been one of the productive hitters thus far this season (setting aside whether that’s likely to be sustained). Charlie Montoyo had the tactically questionable move of ordering a sacrifice bunt, which if executed properly...

GameThread Game #46: Blue Jays at White Sox

The Blue Jays are going for the series split, which 55% of BBB voters predicted would be the outcome. It looks to be another rainy day in Chicago, but at least it’s not cold (20C). A little bit of news has just trickled out: #BlueJays sign LHP Buddy Boshers to a minor-league deal and send him to Triple-A Buffalo. The 31-year-old has a 4.59 ERA in 86.1 relief innings in the majors, but spent 2018 kicking around AAA and had been pitching in the Mexican League this spring.— Scott Mitchell (@ScottyMitchTSN) May 19, 2019 Here are today’s lineups. Game #46 Preview: Thornton vs Lopez

Game #46 Preview: Thornton vs Lopez

Blue Jays (18-27) vs White Sox (21-23) The Blue Jays wrap up their series against the White Sox and finish up their 7 game road trip, looking for a series split in Chicago. Today’s game gets underway at 2:10 ET. Blue Jays’ Starter Trent Thornton, who is quickly becoming one one of the longest tenured members of the Jays’ rotation, makes his 10th career start this afternoon. I’m certainly happy that the Jays were able to get him over the winter for Aledmys Diaz, even if Diaz has picked it up over the last few weeks after a rough start. Thornton may not be even a mid-rotation arm...

Sunday Bantering: Injury Updates

Sunday Bantering: Injury Updates

There were some injury updates yesterday: Clay Buchholz has a grade 2 strain of his ‘teres major’ (via Gregor Chisholm) in his upper back and around his right shoulder. Apparently grade 2 means there is a tear. Grade 3 would be a complete rupture. Clay is off to see Dr. James Andrews which is generally a sign that a player will be out a long time. Devon Travis had a setback. He had more soreness in his knee. Gregor says he is going to get PRP injections (platelet-rich plasma). It isn’t looking good for Travis. I really feel bad for him. It doesn’t sound like he’ll be doing...
