Three totally rational, completely sane Opening Day conclusions

Three totally rational, completely sane Opening Day conclusions

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports Thursday’s Opening Day victory against Houston has Yankees fans dreaming about what could be. The first hour or so of yesterday’s Opening Day tilt against Houston had me questioning why I even like this stupid sport. The second hour and a half had me asking how can anyone not love this stupid sport. On its face, the notion that the first game of 162 is more important than others makes no sense. But the Yankees needed an Opening Day like this to wash the stink of last season off of them. Timely hits? Situational hitting? Working counts...

Today on Pinstripe Alley - 3/29/24

Photo by New York Yankees/ Waking up to an undefeated season still in line. The Yankees put all the dramatics that we didn’t get over the past postseason and threw it into Game 1 of 162 for 2024. It had everything — an immediate deficit, a major comeback, and ninth inning dramatics all centered on their newest superstar. That’s a packed event, and if you were around for the mid-day action you got to witness quite a show. Yankees 5, Astros 4: The road to 162-0 is on!

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports A thrilling comeback kicks off the season in grand style, with a big assist from Juan Soto. You will not be forgiven if you turned this one off after the second inning. The Yankees went down 4-0 to perhaps their most hated rival early, and the second-guessers were already out. Instead we had a game that will probably rank as one of the best wins of the year once the club has (hopefully) compiled another 94 or so, with a thrilling comeback win secured by some defensive brilliance from Lisan al-Gaib Juan Soto. Nestor Cortes had a very odd...

NYY @ HOU: Nestor Cortes vs. Framber Valdez

Photo by Bob Levey/ Chapter 1 of 162 begins now. We’ve made it, friends. Opening Day has arrived. The Yankees begin the season deep in the heart of Texas, taking on their most hated rivals of the last decade in the Houston Astros. A popular pick to once again win the AL West, the Astros do enter play with a little more vulnerability than in previous seasons, especially in their pitching rotation. They will be tapping their best for today, however, with Framber Valdez getting the ball in his third straight Opening Day start. As long as his body holds up, he’ll be one...
