Cleveland Cavaliers playbook: How Kevin Love bullied the Pistons

Cleveland Cavaliers playbook: How Kevin Love bullied the Pistons

The Pistons were hesitant to have Andre Drummond defend him, and Love made them pay. From the start on Tuesday, the Pistons tried to hide Andre Drummond on Jae Crowder and kept him away from Kevin Love. The idea, it seemed, was to put Drummond on lesser three-point shooter so he could hide in the paint, rebound and protect the rim. This didn’t work for a few reasons. For one, Crowder moved well off the ball, hit three-pointers and was hard for Drummond to track. But Love also made the Pistons pay for leaving Tobias Harris on him. Here, the Cavs get Love a touch on his preferred left...

Ante Zizic assigned to the Canton Charge

Ante Zizic assigned to the Canton Charge

The center will get some reps with the Cavs’ G-League affiliate. Ante Zizic has been assigned to the Canton Charge, the Cavaliers announced on Sunday. Zizic will play Monday with the Cavs’ G-League affiliate on Monday on the road against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Zizic appeared in just five games for the Cavs this season, averaging 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. He has remained on the bench despite Tristan Thompson’s calf injury leaving some vacant minutes at center. Instead of giving Zizic a chance, Tyronn Lue has (understandably) gone with Channing Frye. It is, though, good...

Cleveland Cavaliers playbook: How the Cavs used Jeff Green against the Hornets

Cleveland Cavaliers playbook: How the Cavs used Jeff Green against the Hornets

By not asking him to do so much, the Cavs are getting more from him. Jeff Green is having something like a career reboot with the Cavs. While not suddenly the star some thought he could be when drafted, he’d become an important role player with the Cavs. (We can’t debate whether that’s good or bad later, but he’s at least had a positive impact on the team so far). On defense, the Cavs are using him to guards anything from ones to fives. On offense, where he’s averaging 10.5 points per game and shooting 49.5 percent from the field, the Cavs are getting value from him by asking him...
