If you could change the outcome of one 49ers game, what would it be?

If you could change the outcome of one 49ers game, what would it be?

The Super Bowl is the big choice, but there are plenty others. The quiet of the offseason requires a little creativity amidst all the positional reviews and roster projections. Our friends at Pride of Detroit came across this great question. You can change the outcome of one sporting event during your lifetime. Which one would you choose and why?— Michael Dunlap (@DunlapSports) July 19, 2017 We can easily focus this one on the 49ers. Some will see a very clear answer, but I would argue there are a few interesting options to consider. The easy answer for a lot of people would be Super...

2017 NFL preview: Will Teddy Bridgewater play in the preseason?

2017 NFL preview: Will Teddy Bridgewater play in the preseason?

We’re previewing the NFL heading into training camp, moving on to the 49ers four preseason opponents. Today, we look at the Minnesota Vikings. The San Francisco 49ers are wrapping up their offseason, with training camp set to get going on Thursday, July 27. With the help of SB Nation’s other NFL sites, we have been previewing training camp for the 49ers 13 regular season opponents. You can view all of them here. Since we still have some time before the preseason gets going, I thought it would be fun to keep going and look at the other 19 NFL teams. The 49ers will play four of them in...

2017 49ers 90-man roster ranking: players 41-50

2017 49ers 90-man roster ranking: players 41-50

We begin the countdown of our 49ers’ roster ranking today, looking at players ranked 41-50. This is mostly practice squad candidates and camp fodder, but a couple could surprise us. The San Francisco 49ers return to training camp in nine days, and that means it is time for what will hopefully continue to be a regular annual feature. A year ago, we put together a consensus ranking of the 49ers 90-man roster. It included rankings from myself and ten of our writers. You can look at last year’s full rankings here. We’re back again, this time with 13 people voting. Since this is entirely...

What's your earliest 49ers & general sports memory?

What's your earliest 49ers & general sports memory?

We all remember some sports moment or another as the earliest from our childhood. I can only imagine the trip down memory lane it brings. The San Francisco 49ers report to training camp a week from today, at which point we’ll have more information than we know what to do with! In the meantime, we’re wrapping up the last few quiet days before camp. The mothership recently tweeted out a question asking people for their earliest sports memory. The responses offer some highly notable athletic contests, but also some random ones. Everybody is going to remember something different, whether it...

Tom Gamble joining Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan staff

Tom Gamble joining Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan staff

Will they eventually return to the NFL together? Here is your random little news of the day. Tim Kawakami is reporting that Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is expected to hire former San Francisco 49ers assistant general manager Tom Gamble to join his staff. He would not be a coach, but it sounds like would instead assist in football operations. Gamble spent 29 seasons in the NFL, including 10 with the 49ers. He worked for the team from 2005 to 2012, and then left to work for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013 and 2014. He was viewed by many as a guy necessary to make the Jim Harbaugh-Trent...

First round picks Patrick Mahomes, Jamal Adams sign rookie contracts

First round picks Patrick Mahomes, Jamal Adams sign rookie contracts

The 49ers have six days until training camp and Solomon Thomas remains unsigned. The list of draft picks still unsigned as training camp approaches is narrowing down. On Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs agreed to terms with their first round pick, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, and the New York Jets agreed to terms with their first round pick, safety Jamal Adams. Mahomes was the 10th overall selection, while Adams was the sixth overall pick. That leaves five total draft picks unsigned. The San Francisco 49ers have not finalized a deal with the third overall pick, defensive end Solomon Thomas...

Kyle Shanahan’s son thinks Reuben Foster plays football like the Waterboy

Kyle Shanahan’s son thinks Reuben Foster plays football like the Waterboy

Little Shanahan enjoys Foster’s highlights. The San Francisco 49ers brain trust of John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan expressed a lot of excitement when they were able to move into the back end of the first round to grab Reuben Foster back in April. He’s a big-hitter who can get around the field with ease. He slipped due to concerns about his shoulder, a failed drug test, and general maturity questions. Foster did not take part in full team drills at the offseason workout program, instead focusing on individual work as he rehabbed his shoulder. We have repeatedly heard from the 49ers that...

Rivera: Cam Newton not 100 percent heading into training camp

Rivera: Cam Newton not 100 percent heading into training camp

He will likely be fine for Week 1 against the 49ers, but this will be a story to track. The San Francisco 49ers face the Carolina Panthers in Week 1 of the regular season. The most notable storyline facing Carolina at the moment is the status of quarterback Cam Newton. He had shoulder surgery in late March, and according to head coach Ron Rivera, is not yet at 100 percent. Newton did not throw during OTAs or minicamp, and in fact made his first post-surgery throw on June 26. He has been in Baltimore conducting summer workouts with teammates, and has been doing throwing there. Rivera...

Rams sign quarterback Dan Orlovsky

Rams sign quarterback Dan Orlovsky

Sure, why not. The Los Angeles Rams decided they need another quarterback to compete in training camp, and so on Thursday they signed a notable name. ESPN’s Jason Romano is reporting the Rams have signed Dan Orlovsky. Yes, anybody who QBs an 0-16 team is notable. And yes, this guy got signed before Colin Kaepernick. this guy got signed before Colin Kaepernick pic.twitter.com/Y2SpXH4MhS— Harry Lyles Jr. (@harrylylesjr) July 20, 2017

Le’Veon Bell should talk to Kyle Juszczyk about offensive weapon contracts

Le’Veon Bell should talk to Kyle Juszczyk about offensive weapon contracts

The Steelers running back is looking to get paid like a combination RB1/WR2. The 49ers have an offensive weapon of their own. The Pittsburgh Steelers were unable to come to terms with running back Le’Veon Bell on a long term contract extension, and so he is set to play the 2017 season under the franchise tag. There is some speculation he might hold out through training camp, but regardless, his thoughts on his contract are rather intriguing. Bell reportedly was offered a deal that would average over $12 million per year, with $30 million paid in the first two years, and $42 million over...

Matt Ryan not a fan of Kyle Shanahan play-calling in 4th quarter of Super Bowl

Matt Ryan not a fan of Kyle Shanahan play-calling in 4th quarter of Super Bowl

Kyle Shanahan has borne the brunt of most of the Super Bowl blame. The Atlanta Falcons and Kyle Shanahan each find themselves preparing for a new season, and while they are no longer together, the 2016 season will forever leave them connected at the hip. Shanahan helped the offense develop into even more of a high-powered attack and get to the Super Bowl. And yet, people will mostly just remember the fourth quarter collapse against the New England Patriots. Shanahan has been the primary recipient of criticisms. The Falcons seemed to have the game sewn up after a ridiculous catch by Julio...
