49ers tied for top waiver priority heading into Week 4

49ers tied for top waiver priority heading into Week 4

The 49ers continue to have a good shot if quality players are waived. The close of Week 3 of the 2017 NFL season is notable for one particular reason. The waiver wire order is now set based on reverse order of current record. The San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, and Cincinnati Bengals are all tied atop the order, and after speaking with Field Yates, the determination this week on a claim would likely be via coin flip. The 49ers held the No. 2 waiver priority the first three weeks of the season because it was based on the draft order. Week 4 is when that changes. The 49ers, Browns, and...

Alex Boone suffered MNF injury, status for 49ers-Cardinals is TBD

The former 49er guard signed with the Cardinals in Week 1. His status for Week 4 vs. the 49ers is unclear. The San Francisco 49ers face the Arizona Cardinals this weekend, and it means facing a host of former teammates. The most notable changed teams this offseason, with Antoine Bethea and Phil Dawson both joining the Cardinals after the 49ers cut them. However, the 49ers will likely not face one notable former teammate. Left guard Alex Boone is likely to miss some time with an injury suffered during Monday Night Football, according to Kent Somers. Boone was cut by the Minnesota Vikings at...

NFL power rankings, 2017: Soooo close heading into Week 4

NFL power rankings, 2017: Soooo close heading into Week 4

We’re back with 2017 NFL power rankings following the third week of the season. There are some intriguing questions. The NFL is officially heading into the quarter mark this week following a slightly crazy Week 3. There were a ton of road favorites, but we saw all sorts of upsets and near upsets. The Dallas Cowboys closed out the week with a much-needed win over the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona had some chances to get a huge home win, but instead they continue to scuffle along. We’re back with Week 4 of our 2017 NFL power rankings. We’ll have a round-up of media power rankings, but as...

The President of the United States called for private citizens exercising their First Amendment rights to be punished

The President of the United States called for private citizens exercising their First Amendment rights to be punished

The President of the United States spoke at a rally on Friday, and in that speech he suggested that private citizens exercising their First Amendment right to free speech should be fired. Specifically, the President said, "Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. He is fired. He's fired!'" He did not say, “I am asking NFL owners to fire these protesters,” but the suggestion was entirely clear. My opinions about Donald Trump are entirely clear at this point. I specifically used the...

Raiders vs. Washington, SNF: TV schedule, online streaming, odds, more

Raiders vs. Washington, SNF: TV schedule, online streaming, odds, more

The NFL closes out the Week 3 Sunday slate with a potentially fun matchup on Sunday Night Football. The Oakland Raiders travel east to face Washington at FedEx Field in Maryland. The game kicks off at 5:30 p.m. PT with Al Michaels, Cris Collinsworth, and Michele Tafoya on the call. The Raiders are a field goal favorite, and the over/under in this game is set at 53.5 points. I’d really be tempted by the over in this game. I don’t expect the defenses to show much of anything, and that could end up benefiting Washington most. This is the last of a whole bunch of Sunday road favorites, and...

Week 3 NFL schedule: Actually quality matchups in the PM

Week 3 NFL schedule: Actually quality matchups in the PM

The Browns are actually favored against the Colts. That’s reason enough to watch! The NFL’s afternoon slate in Week 3 offers two intriguing matchups and one potential stinker. The Bengals at Packers is looking like the worst of the three. Cincinnati could bounce back, but they’ve been a train wreck thus far. The Packers are coming off a loss in Atlanta, but I think they bounce back. The Seahawks have a huge challenge in front of them. They beat the 49ers last week, but it was not pretty, and their offensive line is a big question mark. They are road underdogs against the Titans, who...

Week 3 NFL schedule: Some ugly matchups including a rare favorite in the AM

Week 3 NFL schedule: Some ugly matchups including a rare favorite in the AM

The Browns are actually favored against the Colts. That’s reason enough to watch! The San Francisco 49ers are finished for the week thanks to Thursday Night Football, and that means we get to enjoy Sunday football without worry about the 49ers. This week’s slate includes a lot of road favorites, and some questionable matchups. The AM slate includes some ugly games, but a few intriguing question marks. The Broncos head east to face the Bills. While Buffalo is coming off a close loss to the Panthers, I think they could give Denver a tough time. A game that could be atrocious, but still...

Week 3 AM schedule: Starting eaaaarly with a live stream of Ravens-Jaguars

Week 3 AM schedule: Starting eaaaarly with a live stream of Ravens-Jaguars

Way too early football for you! How about some breakfast football? Well, it’s breakfast on the east coast, and watching from bed on the west coast. The Jacksonville Jaguars “host” the Baltimore Ravens at London’s Wembley Stadium, with the game kicking off at 6:30 a.m. PT. It’s insanity to play football that early, but the NFL has to get that sweet, sweet London money, right? The game is only available on TV in the Jacksonville and Baltimore markets, but the game will be available on a live stream for everybody to watch. Verizon bought the rights and are streaming it via NFL on...

NFL picks against the spread, Week 3: SuperContest picks, all picks

NFL picks against the spread, Week 3: SuperContest picks, all picks

The 49ers are finished for the week, and it’s time to move on to Sunday. I’m back with my third week of LVH SuperContest picks, as well as my picks for the remaining games. Welcome back for the third week of the 2017 NFL season. The San Francisco 49ers lost a tough one to the Los Angeles, missing on an extra point, failing on a late two-point conversion, and getting hosed on an offensive pass interference call in a 41-39 loss. I had the 49ers covering the 2.5-point spread, so I suppose I at least have that going for me. For the fourth straight season, I am back for the Westgate...

2018 NFL Draft big board: Where might the 49ers look with their likely high draft pick?

2018 NFL Draft big board: Where might the 49ers look with their likely high draft pick?

The 49ers have holes to fill, and could have serious draft cache in 2018. A new scout-assessed big board offers some intriguing names. The San Francisco 49ers will be plenty active in the 2018 NFL Draft, and it’s safe to say they will be looking for players on both sides of the ball. The defense is improving, but they still need help among the pass rushers and at cornerback. The offense showed signs of life this week, but they lack a true franchise quarterback, need help along the offensive line, and could use more feature options at wide receiver. Recently, Albert Breer decided to put...

Josh Rosen, Josh Allen tumble in college QB power rankings heading into Week 4

Time for another look at where the 2018 draft-eligible quarterbacks stand after three weeks of action. The fourth week of the 2017 college football season gets going in full earnest Saturday morning, and all the notable quarterbacks will be in action. As many as five quarterbacks could end up getting selected in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and the San Francisco 49ers could be on the prowl for one of them next April. NFL.com’s college football coverage is back once again with their quarterback power rankings. With so much talent potentially available next April, they are keeping...

49ers-Rams recap: Kyle Shanahan Friday press conference live stream, updates

The 49ers are 0-3, and Kyle Shanahan will have his day-after press conference. Follow along here for updates. The San Francisco 49ers are three games into the season and they’re coming off their third loss. Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams was extremely exciting, much better than anybody could ever have predicted. Head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media after the game, but he’ll hold his day-after press conference today (Friday) at 1 p.m. PT. It will be interesting to hear what he has to say given the controversial pass interference call following some time to...

I can watch this video of Pierre Garçon’s toe-tap catch over and over

I can watch this video of Pierre Garçon’s toe-tap catch over and over

The 49ers veteran receiver had two particularly great catches The San Francisco passing attack struggled to get much going at times on Thursday, but in the second half, it took off. And Pierre Garçon deserves as much credit as anybody. Trent Taylor and Marquise Goodwin made some huge plays, but it was Garçon who was Brian Hoyer’s go-to wide receiver. Garçon finished the game with seven receptions for 142 yards, and he was making huge play after huge play. He had two in particular that I loved. The biggest had to be his toe-tapper. When the play ran live, it looked like there was no way...

Brian Hoyer is going to be a roller-coaster of emotion for 49ers fans

Brian Hoyer is going to be a roller-coaster of emotion for 49ers fans

The 49ers QB bounced back in the fourth quarter or Thursday Night Football The San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams put together a matchup on Thursday that was significantly entertaining than I think most any of us expected. It looked like it would be ugly early, with quarterback Brian Hoyer throwing an interception on the first play of the game. But Hoyer and the rest of the offense bounced back late in the 41-39 loss. Prior to the game, I tweeted an article where I asked people if the 49ers would score a touchdown against the Rams. The 49ers entered the game having no touchdowns on...

49ers-Rams final score: 9 things we learned

49ers-Rams final score: 9 things we learned

The 49ers lost a wild one on Thursday Night Football. Here’s what the game told us. The San Francisco 49ers lost a tough one in Week 3, dropping Thursday Night Football to the Los Angeles Rams by a final score of 41-39. The team looked out of it a couple different times, but kept fighting back. They couldn’t close the deal late, but it was still a wildly entertaining game. Time to start seeing what we learned from it. 1. Brian Hoyer can fight back from adversity At halftime, and even into the fourth quarter, I was not happy with how Brian Hoyer was playing. Nobody was. And yet, he...
